Am i crazy ?
Bear with me on this one people, i was in fow when some ingame friend asked me if i would like to try wow for 10 days free. I have never played wow, besides the original campaign and warcraft 2 tides of darkness. So i was ok, sure, i wouldnt mind playing wow free for 10 days just to see what the game is like.
So after i go to the wow website, read about a 45 min disclaimer that i really didnt agree to alot of the things i was reading (i just wanted to play it for 10 days) I accepted the terms of play. Then i go to the account registration screen and insert my 10 day free pass key wich then brings me to the billing screen. First of the wanted my name, adress, phone number, email adress and here is the kicker - my credit card number If this is a free pass why am i giving you my billing information ? The page says-you will not be charged for the 10 day free pass, we just need your billing info in case you decide you want to keep your account active. Well shouldnt you get that info if i decide i want to keep playing ? Also after the credid card info they wanted me to choose one month, one quarter or one year billing - For my free 10 day pass. What a joke, i used to pay xbox a monthly fee, soe a monthly fee for planetside. I cancelled every pay per month game, and now refuse to pay monthly to play videogames. What are these morons thinking that every game now has to be a monthly charge and if i want to play 10 different games i would have to pay like 5k a month to 10 different companies. Im sorry, i think im going off topic. Thank you guild wars for paveing the way through what was corrupting the gaming industry. Im going back and playing Starcraft, Red Alert, counterstrike before i start paying 15 dollars a month to play a game. But how do you justify taking someones billing info and enough info about someone to commit identity theft for a 10 day Free Trial ? am i crazy ? |

Some companies automatically bill people unless someone specifically tells them not to. If you are lazy, you pay. :\

I wouldn't take a pass like that from a stranger. If they have the account key it is POSSIBLE that they could get ahold of your account (not likely but possible) and POSSIBLY get a hold of your credit card number. Not smart imo. As for needing your credit card info, Blizzard requries it incase you go over your 10 free days. They will bill you if you go on past then (most likely).

So this person that sent me the 10 day free pass (just someone i know from farming tombs) could have gotten my info...how ?
BTW.. the last guild i was in i thought was tryn to hack my comp because one guildie was from new zealand and was acting weird, then my internet security said i had an overflow attack and a portscan. I have a friend that works for oracle and he thought i was just paranoid, but then when he ran the ip adress of the comp that portscaned me, it came up a comp from new zealand. Then i quit the guild, called my isp and demanded a new ip. Can hackers hack your comp or get your ip adress from using TS and Vent ? |

I believe there is a post about that somewhere. But people can basicly get your ip from almost anything nowdays on the internet. I'm just saying...If you don't personally know the person or dont personally TRUST the person, I wouldn't use it. And please, report that guild that was trying to hack you to ANet or NCSoft support.

Never dissable your firewall, no matter what game you want to play. I rather quit the game than quit my firewall. Call me paranoid, but that is how it works. Dissabling a firewall, is like opening the door to your private home.
